Workin Hard (at hardly workin)

Submitted by bradfucious on Mon, 24/12/2007 - 09:31.

It's Christmas Eve Day, and I am at work. I've got a few odds and ends to take care of, but mostly I'm just filling space and killing time. Ideally, within the next few hours, someone will come around and be all like, "Hey dude, get your roll out on!" And I will proceed to give a quizzical look to whomever would utter such nonsense, but would quickly grab my things and leave, because I speak 'street'.

My weekend was a moderately productive one. But the productivity is not complete...

I managed to get 14000+ email messages stored on my Gmail account, but now I need to begin the process of tagging and archiving all of these things, so as to reduce actual clutter within my inbox and make it so that other things are more easily located. I also need to develop a workflow that will turn my Gmail account into a scheduling and organizing powerhouse (using IMified and Remember The Milk effectively), and, by extension, turn my Thunderbird install into a home-base.

I was working on getting my calendaring under control as well, but somehow found myself with an entirely blanked out calendar. All of my entries were gone from both Gcal and iCal, thanks in part to a poor understanding of how Gsync worked. I've now purchased a one year license for SpanningSync and will be using that to streamline task management.

By virtue of having to redo my calendar, I'm also going to be making use of Moneydance to manage my finances and payment schedules so that I'm certain to never be late on bills (which I'm generally not) and so I have a good, fluid idea of how much I'm actually worth (or not worth, as the case may be...stupid car loan).

Once all of that is said and done, my trust (and old) iPaq rx3115 is going to be my portable nerve center, and I'm testing out software to sync my calendar, inbox and various other files as well, so that once I'm finished with this digital life re-org, I'll be able to simply carry around my iPaq and be in the know on everything from my things to do to my emails to respond to my music and select videos. Of course, once I upgrade to a Blackberry in the next couple of months, the PDA may be doomed to being a controller, but it'll still be useful.

I need to put my public key up here for download, and I need to get it out to people via email as well, but I'll worry about that on Wednesday.

If I don't check in again, Happy Christmas to those who do that sort of thing and a Happy Day Off to those who don't.
